Out of Town Shopper

Disclaimer

Please read this before relying on any of our guides for a decision.

General information only

Out of Town Shopper publishes general guidance about shopping at UK retail parks, including parking, access, opening hours and consumer rights. It is not legal advice and is no substitute for advice on your own circumstances. The author is a writer, not a solicitor or other legal professional.

The law varies and changes

Many rules we cover differ between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and some are changing. Private parking regulation in particular has been under review for several years. Each guide shows its updated date; the law may have changed since then. Always check the official sources we link to.

Signs, contracts and policies come first

At a retail park, the terms that apply to you on the day are set by the signs at the car park, the terms of your order and the retailer's own policies, alongside the law. We cannot know the terms at any specific site. Read them, and keep records.

Disputes

If you are dealing with a parking charge, a refund refusal or a court claim, seek individual help from Citizens Advice or the equivalent service in your nation, or from a qualified adviser. Meet any deadline on your paperwork; do not wait for a reply from us.

No endorsement

We do not endorse any retailer, product, parking operator, charging network or retail park. Mentions of laws, schemes and official bodies are for information only. See also our terms of use.
