What every page on Out of Town Shopper must, and must not, do.
Every guide must
- Be accurate as of its updated date, checked against the sources described in our fact-checking policy.
- Say where it applies. If a rule differs between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the guide says so.
- Separate law, codes and policies. A legal right, a voluntary industry code and a shop's goodwill policy are labelled as such.
- Be practical. Each guide should leave you knowing what to do next, whether that is checking a sign, keeping a record or writing an appeal.
- Use plain English, explaining any legal term the first time it appears.
- Link to official sources for the key rules, so you can check them yourself.
No guide may
- Recommend, rank or endorse a particular retailer, retail park, product, parking operator or charging network.
- Name or criticise individual businesses or landowners.
- Contain invented statistics, survey results, testimonials or quotes.
- Quote prices we cannot stand behind. Approximate ranges are labelled as such.
- Present draft or proposed rules as if they were in force.
- Present general information as personal legal advice.
